Ansell Healthcare, a world leader in total hand protection solutions, announces the launch of the new HyFlex® 11-920 glove
The HyFlex® 11-920 is designed for people handling slightly oily metal components who need a secure grip for safety and performance. Scientific tests prove that this latest newcomer to the HyFlex® range offers workers a unique combination of outstanding controlled grip on slightly oily surfaces and continued clean hands thanks to an oil-repellent coating – all without compromising on dexterity and overall comfort. Ansell conducted an in-depth study of thousands of workstations at over 50 major manufacturers in Europe. Using its GuardianSM analysis tool, Ansell found that within the automotive, OEM and metal fabrication environments, over 10 per cent of workers had an urgent requirement for liquid impermeability and a good grip in a slightly oily environment. “Workers have been wearing gloves offering sufficient grip but little or no protection from oil, thus risking skin damage over a long-term period. Many workers go for alternative solutions and use gloves that are liquid-repellent, but these are slippery when performing slightly oily applications. With the HyFlex® 11-920, Ansell now offers a safer solution without compromising on dexterity or comfort,” says Marcel Willems, marketing director, Ansell Occupational Healthcare Europe.
Grip challenge Ansell Grip Technology™ addresses the grip challenge. Microscopic channels in the glove coating guide away the oil and moisture resulting in a secure glove-to-surface contact. This innovative technology was first integrated in the AlphaTec™, a chemical-resistant glove offering a better wet/oily grip than any comparable glove available on the market today. As announced at the time of its launch, Ansell has now successfully added this exciting technology to a knitted liner resulting in the innovative HyFlex® 11-920. The value of the Ansell Grip Technology™ is evident. During the early days of its introduction, the technology was validated by Prof. Alan Wing from the University of Birmingham's Sensory Motor Neuroscience Laboratory. Oil grip tests between comparable gloves showed that Ansell Grip Technology™ resulted in a 34-69 per cent gain in grip performance when lifting oily 4.5 kilo objects. Furthermore, over a range of increasing weights, the technology proved to provide a better controlled grip than any other comparable glove available on the market today. Prof. Wing subsequently tested the performance of the new HyFlex® 11-920 and four other gloves designed for similar applications and environments. According to Wing, the new test results confirm that with the HyFlex® 11-920, Ansell is presenting a glove which combines liquid repellence over the working area married to a sure and confident grip performance without forfeiting dexterity, tactility or overall comfort.
Oil Repellent The palm of the HyFlex® 11-920 with its oil-resistant coating offers exceptional resistance to oil penetration and permeation. In order to have a third-party validation of the latter, Ansell worked with Centexbel, a Belgium-based independent research body. Centexbel tested the palm area of the glove as per the EN374-3 norm and compared the new HyFlex® to four other gloves available on the market today. The HyFlex® 11-920 proved to be resistant to n-hexane, with an average breakthrough time of 150 minutes, compared to less than five minutes for the other four gloves. For sulphuric acid (95 per cent), the HyFlex® 11-920 breakthrough time was 135 minutes, whereas the same substance broke through immediately with all other gloves tested. Sulphuric acid and n-hexane (which is toxic) were selected for the trials because they are often present in the day-to-day working environments of the applications mentioned above. Altogether, the new HyFlex® 11-920 is the latest addition to Ansell’s highly successful HyFlex® family of lightweight assembly gloves. It incorporates all the greatly appreciated features of this range: high level of comfort, fit and dexterity, and sets a new standard for the reputed brand.
