Franchise Opportunites on Government Business

Bristol City Council

Company Focus - Conference & Events

The Council house in Bristol is one of the West’s most distinguished and memorable venues for meetings, conferences, seminars and dinners.

The Council House’s ceremonial entrance overlooks the moat and leads into the Reception Hall – a grand space lined with local Doulting stone and paved with black and white Italian marble. The Reception Hall is ideal for pre-dinner drinks or as an information display area.

Off the Reception Hall is the light, airy Conference Hall – the largest room in the building and an ideal location for exhibitions, conferences, seminars and many more events.

The Council House also contains eight elegantly furnished committee rooms, which are well suited to training –sessions; seminars and syndicate work to complement conferences.

We have over 50 years of experience within the conference industry and we have hosted International Conferences, Government Conferences, Royal Visits, Charity dinners to name a few.

The Councils House sounds rather grand and imposing- and so it is, but it is also a friendly place, which prides itself on extending a warm welcome to people of all kinds.

We do have two other buildings we are able to offer conferencing facilities in these are the Old Council House on Corn Street. The Old Council House is an elegant, neo-Classical Grade II listed building which has many wonderful interesting features, including a grand sweeping staircase and outstanding decoration throughout with many original features.

It was built 1824-1827 by Sir Robert Smirke and is situated at the cross roads of Corn Street and Broad Street. This is right in the heart of Bristol and so has the convenience of being located near the main road and rail links.

In 2006, following a large restoration project, The Old Council House became the city Register Office and now has three superb recently refurbished rooms available for hire for meetings and events. These include the Lantern Room, the Bristol Room and The Grand Council Chamber.

The Lantern Room with its beautifully crafted interior, elegant lighting and regency decor provides a stunning setting for your special event.

The Grand Council Chamber
is an impressive room and is the ideal venue for larger events, exhibitions, award ceremonies and conferences as it holds up to 150 people. It was opened by Queen Victoria and houses large paintings depicting various events in Bristol’s history.

The Bristol Room is the perfect setting for those smaller meetings, training sessions or team away days. Although small it still has all the period features you would expect in a building of this nature.

The Pavilion
The Pavilion is an urban village hall available for hire that is situated alongside the harbour at Canon's Marsh

The ground floor will be occupied by a local restaurant operator whilst the upper floor is managed on behalf of the Harbourmaster's Office by Corporate Services' Facilities Management and it is available to Council Departments as well as the local community groups. The first floor has a terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows.

It is an ideal venue for:

  • Training days
  • Receptions
  • Exhibitions
  • Community Groups
  • Seminars
